Overview

Position Information:
This is a part-time professional social worker position in the Child and Family Services Division. The employee will provide services to victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. This team serves a culturally and ethnically diverse population, including Spanish speaking persons who have difficulty communicating in English. Treatment is time-limited including ensuring the immediate safety of victims, as well as case management services.

Often this is a crisis situation. The role of the therapist is to intervene, support and explore safety issues while ensuring linkages to appropriate services. The position is integrated with units responding to Child Protective Services, and Mental Health/Substance Abuse Services within the division. In addition, the employee participates in the prevention work of the unit, is involved in program development for schools and other outreach opportunities, and completes all documentation and administrative requirements according to agency policy.

Minimum Requirements:

• domestic violence experience including working with victims, survivors, and children impacted by domestic violence;
• experience in sexual assault including counseling and responding to crisis calls;
• experience with various clinical treatment methods including individual and family therapy and play therapy;
• experience working with or within the court system; and/or
• coursework in child development and/or family dynamics.

Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. An offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.

An assessment of oral Spanish proficiency using social work terms will be required before a candidate can be appointed to this position.

A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Work Hours:

20 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

This recruitment is for a limited term appointment through Dec. 2008. This may become full-time after that date.

The incumbent of this position will receive language pay at the rate of $.65/hour on all hours worked and on paid leave hours.

This position may be filled at either the full performance level or trainee level. Trainee level salary starts at $20.85 hourly.
