South Country Human Service Zone partners with the Department of Health and Human Services to deliver exceptional Economic Assistance programs to our community.
Eligibility Worker I )The Economic Assistance Unit is responsible for the assessment and eligibility determination of applicants for a variety of programs, including Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Health Care Coverage, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Low‑Income Energy Assistance, Child Care Assistance, Healthy Steps, and General Assistance. The position requires knowledge of community resources and state, federal, and county policies. Program training is provided.
Some travel throughout South Country Human Service Zone/Region 4 may be required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, computer literacy, collaboration, and decision‑making skills are essential. Comfort with various software and database applications, a willingness to learn new technologies, and a strong understanding of complex program policies and procedures are required. The ideal candidate is organized, detail‑oriented, manages time and priorities effectively, communicates with diverse populations, and demonstrates empathy and teamwork. A passion for helping others and making a difference in the community is essential.
Qualifications3>- High school diploma or GED
- Three years of work experience in clerical, accounting, financial, legal, or teaching fields
- Three years of a bachelor’s degree program (90 semester hours or 135 quarter hours)
- Three years of combined education and experience as listed above
- Completion of the Eligibility Worker Certificate Program offered at Bismarck State College (or former Lake Region State College)
- Preference will be given to candidates with 1 year of experience determining eligibility in a human service office for Economic Assistance Programs (TANF, Food Stamps, Foster Care, Medicaid, or LIHEAP)
Selected candidates will be required to complete a fingerprinted background check in addition to a state background check, which may take up to two weeks to process.
