Mechanic, Trades ​/ Skilled Labor

The Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing and repairing all McKenzie County vehicles and equipment.

This position is located in Watford City, ND and scheduled for Monday – Friday.

• Perform preventative maintenance services, inspections, diagnosis and repair of County vehicles and equipment
• Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering and hydraulics
• Mount, dismount, balance, and repair tires on vehicles and equipment. Inspect the tires for damage and wear, perform tire rotations
• Provide assistance, guidance, and direction to other McKenzie County personnel regarding vehicle and equipment maintenance
• Troubleshoot vehicle and equipment breakdowns and failures
• Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment
• Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment
• Utilize fabrication skills to complete all phases of fabrication
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with the County standards
• Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
• Routinely travel to various locations across McKenzie County
• Other duties as assigned for business needs

• High School Diploma or GED
• Three (3) years’ experience as a Mechanic, Hydraulics, Metal Fabrication and Welding or an equivalent of education and experience
• Valid Class A driver’s license preferred
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification for Diesel Engines and/or Heavy Equipment preferred
• Strong diagnostic skills
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to report to Watford City, ND daily at required schedule time
• Physical requirements and working conditions:
• Able to handle exposure to noise and extreme weather conditions
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively
