Duties- Provide comprehensive care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the Indian Health Service.
- The Emergency Department Registered Nurse delivers competent, evidence-based, patient-centered care to patients with urgent/emergent medical, surgical, critical care, trauma, or psychiatric conditions. Accountable for all elements of the nursing process in a high-acuity environment.
- Assess, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the delivery of skilled patient care in accordance with nursing standards and evidence-based practice.
- Perform triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) system to determine patient acuity and prioritize treatment needs.
- Provide comprehensive emergency care to stable, unstable, and critically ill patients, including stabilization, resuscitation, and life-support interventions.
- Apply critical thinking to make complex clinical decisions and respond effectively to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Supervise the delivery of nursing care by other staff, providing guidance, evaluation, and feedback as needed.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment (defibrillators, ECG monitors, IV pumps, oxygen flowmeters, bladder scanners).
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health care providers to develop and implement coordinated care plans.

- Education and licensing: graduate or higher from an accredited professional nursing program; current, active, full, and unrestricted nursing license/registration in the U.S. or territory
- Experience:
defined by grade level (GS-5/7/9/11) with corresponding combinations of education and professional nursing experience - Specialized experience requirements by grade level (GS-07, GS-09, GS-11) as described in the announcement
- Basic and minimum qualifications include completion of required degrees and licensure, with potential for education flexibility for impending graduates
- For foreign education, must provide Certification of Foreign Equivalency
This position has an education requirement. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable with the application; official transcripts required prior to an offer. Accreditation must be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
