Overview
OverviewA Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), also known as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in some states, is a healthcare professional who provides basic nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and physicians. LPNs play a crucial role in patient care by monitoring patient health, administering medications, and providing comfort and support to patients and their families.
Responsibilities- Direct Patient Care
Monitor and record patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration); administer prescribed medications via oral, topical, and injection routes; perform basic wound care, dressing changes, and catheter care; assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, eating, mobility); collect specimens for laboratory testing; observe and report changes in patient condition to supervising RN or physician. - Patient Monitoring and Assessment
Conduct routine health assessments and screenings; monitor patient responses to treatments and medications; recognize and report signs of complications or adverse reactions; maintain accurate documentation of patient care and observations; assist with diagnostic procedures and tests. - Medication Administration
Prepare and administer medications according to physician orders; verify patient identity and medication accuracy using safety protocols; monitor patients for medication side effects and therapeutic responses; maintain medication records and inventory; educate patients about medication purposes and side effects. - Patient Education and Support
Provide basic health education to patients and families; teach patients about disease management and self-care techniques; offer emotional support and comfort to patients and families; assist with discharge planning and follow-up care instructions; promote patient safety and infection control practices. - Documentation and Communication
Maintain detailed patient records and care plans; document all nursing interventions and patient responses; communicate effectively with healthcare team members; participate in shift reports and team meetings; ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies. - Equipment and Supply Management
Operate and maintain basic medical equipment; ensure proper sterilization and cleaning of equipment; monitor and order supplies as needed; maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Current state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse
- Current BLS certification
- Previous healthcare experience
- Variable Days
