The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides service to patients in designated care settings, including acute, short and long‑term care, by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments. The NP obtains a thorough medical history and performs examination and assessments to determine patient needs, analyzes data with other healthcare professionals, develops diagnoses, coordinates care, collaborates with providers both independently and within teams, formulates treatment plans, prescribes medications as authorized, maintains detailed records, consults with specialists when necessary, provides patient education, and may cover hospital consultations, rounding, and assist with procedures as needed.
The NP conducts research, incorporates evidence‑based practice guidelines, maintains knowledge of state regulations and reimbursement, and demonstrates advanced medical knowledge.
- Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master’s degree in nursing is preferred.

- Schedule:
Hours will be between M‑F in a normal 8‑5 clinic day. No holidays, weekends or call. - Looking to have Hankinson clinic open M, W, F to start – would look to use clinician in another location on 4th day with potential to grow the hours in Hankinson down the road based on the demands of the clinic.
- Clinic only.
- New graduates will be reviewed, but experience is preferred.
- Position duties:
Clinic coverage for primary care patients in family medicine. - Make‑up of team: solo team, new clinic but support for neighboring Lidgerwood clinic (2 APPs) and Wahpeton Clinic (5 MDs, 9 APPs in primary care).
- New Clinic location; looking to have PT/OT embedded in clinic as well as outreach from psychiatry services.
- Required FTE 0.8 FTE.
- Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for an adequate volume of patients in the past twelve months, or completion of master’s/post‑master’s degree program in the past twelve months. Experience must correlate to the privileges requested.
- Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice.
- Current DEA permit to prescribe controlled substances.
- Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (NP‑C) or (FNP‑BC).
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
- Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
