IT Support, Systems Administrator
This is non-supervisory, highly skilled, and technical work with responsibility for the setup, configuration, and installation, maintenance of all PC systems and the management of the PC Network to ensure continuous, efficient and effective operations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director, MIS.
DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)- Installs, modifies, and makes minor repairs to microcomputer hardware and software packages and provides technical assistance and training to system users.
- Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing or spreadsheet, and remote access programs into computer.
- Diagnoses system hardware, software and operating systems problems and recommends or performs minor corrective actions based on knowledge of system and replaces defective or inadequate software packages.
- Installs FMS and other in-house application installations on end-users systems and provide preliminary training where possible.
- Provides support for computer installations, configurations and voice communication devices such as telephone sets and basic telecom switch operations.
- Resolves various LAN connectivity issues for system clients.
- Procures computer parts and supplies and upgrades computer equipment.
- Maintains computer lab to ensure that it is operational and available for use.
- Generates and prints various payroll reports.
- Performs other related work as required.
Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, computer science or data processing with a minimum of one year's experience on PC Systems and MIS environment;
OR
An Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Data Processing with a minimum of three (3) years' experience on PC system and MIS environment,
OR
Seven (7) years of progressive experience that includes PC systems installation and configuration, not going below High School Diploma or its equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of networking systems and basic trouble shooting practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of computer operations and software programs.
- Knowledge of hardware equipment configurations and inter-connectivity components used in computer networking.
- Knowledge of MS Windows 9/2000 Professional.
- Knowledge of Ethernet/TCO/IP configuration on PC systems.
- Knowledge of peripheral device installation and configuration.
- Knowledge of Local Area Networking.
- Knowledge of commercial software suites as applied in the office environment.
- Skill in the use of small tools used in the repair of hardware equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently and according to priority.
- Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely.
- Ability to analyze hardware and software programs and to apply standardized practices in their resolution.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and all others contacted during the course of work.
Employee works under the general supervision of a superior officer, but the employee performs the work independently and refers to the supervisor only unusual problems.

COMPLEXITYEmployee performs a wide variety of complex technical tasks in the repair of computer hardware and software programs and connectivity problems with systems network.
SCOPE AND EFFECTThe work consists of diagnosing and debugging a wide range of standard and non- standard computer hardware/software problems and the maintenance of networking operations to ensure continuous, efficient and effective operations.
PERSONAL CONTACTSEmployee maintains regular contacts with inter-agency system clients, vendors and co workers to resolve networking systems, hardware/software problems.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTSThe purpose of the many contacts is to obtain information concerning hardware, configuration and networking system problems in order to isolate and debug them.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSLifts and moves PC and peripheral equipment. Bending, stooping, climbing, walking, driving, and lifting boxes of printed material and extended periods of sitting.
WORK ENVIRONMENTAir-conditioned office with occasional discomfort (air condition failure), generally adequate and comfortable.
