Compass Oncology is seeking a Patient Care Coordinator to join our high-impact team. Compass Oncology - the largest privately-owned Cancer Care and Research Facility in the Pacific Northwest - is seeking a Patient Care Coordinator to join our team.

Employment Type:

Full-Time, 40 Hours M-F.

Location:

Rose Quarter Cancer Center (Portland, Oregon).

Salary Range: $19.50-$28.47 Per Hour
. This position is expected to relocate to our new clinic in NW Portland in late Spring 2026.

Job Scope

Under general supervision, serves as a Care Coordinator in scheduling a variety of patient appointments, including office visits, lab appointments, chemotherapy appointments and tests as indicated by the Provider. May include outside scheduling and the coordination of outside referrals. Serves as a resource and liaison between patient and other medical staff. Answers incoming calls and triages calls appropriately to the correct department/healthcare provider.

Accuracy, efficiency, and excellent time management are crucial as a Patient Care Coordinator. Familiar with standard medical concepts and medical office practices. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/practice.
  • Accurately and efficiently schedules patient medical appointments including office visits, lab, chemotherapy, and other associated ancillary appointments as ordered by Provider in the computer system.
  • Assists patients in coordinating external referrals as ordered by the provider.
  • Obtains and maintains accurate patient demographics and insurance information and communicates changes appropriately.
  • Researches and responds to routine and non-routine patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Requests assistance from more seasoned coworkers & supervisor on complex issues to discuss resolution & learn.
  • Answers all incoming calls, assesses callers’ needs, directs to appropriate personnel. Pages clinic personnel as appropriate. Obtains and communicates messages in an accurate and timely manner using the patient portal.
  • Develops and maintains positive and collaborative working relationships across all departments and staff.
  • Attends weekly team huddles led by Provider to discuss patient cases and work collaboratively to ensure quality care is provided.
  • Actively participates in departmental and inter-departmental staff meetings, work groups or other collaborative efforts as needed.
  • Acts as a resource for all clinic staff including training, shadowing, and onboarding.
  • Demonstrates reliability and punctuality by consistently showing up on time and maintaining dependable attendance to support team operations and organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
  • At least two (2) years office experience, preferably in a medical setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology highly desired.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in reading, interpreting, and executing provider orders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to adjust priorities based on patient or clinic needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate information and questions effectively.
  • A calm, professional and compassionate demeanor in a high-volume specialty practice.
  • Comfortable interacting with patients, family members and care givers during times of medical and emotional stress.
  • Proficiency with computer systems;
    Microsoft Office Outlook & Word is required.
