The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is seeking an on‑site Construction Manager (Engineer) to support major water and wastewater infrastructure projects near Suffolk, Virginia (Hampton Roads). This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced field engineer or senior construction manager who thrives in the field‑coordinating across disciplines and managing construction activities from design through completion. Design‑build experience is preferred but not required.

Position SummaryThis position supports projects such as HRSD’s multi‑billion‑dollar Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (SWIFT) and other major water and wastewater infrastructure improvements, including treatment facilities, conveyance systems, and related civil and utility infrastructure.
Essential Job Functions- Coordinate construction activities on site with the contractor, owner, and major subcontractors and suppliers.
- Review and manage shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs, ensuring timely input from all engineering disciplines.
- Lead, manage and coordinate Resident Project Representatives (RPRs), geotechnical and materials testing firm(s), and 3rd party Inspectors to track progress and resolve field issues.
- Maintain communication between design engineers, contractors, and owners to ensure work conforms with plans and specifications.
- Monitor schedules, support progress reporting, and assist with cost tracking and documentation.
- In collaboration with the Engineer of Record (EOR), provide engineering or construction experience and judgment to resolve field conflicts and ensure technical accuracy.
- Uphold Tetra Tech’s safety, quality, and compliance standards on all project sites.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or related discipline) or Construction Management.
- 5+ years of relevant construction management experience, ideally in water/wastewater or infrastructure projects.
- Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams during submittal and RFI review cycles.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must be able to work full‑time on site near Suffolk, VA and support other projects in the Hampton Roads area.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- This position may require occasional climbing, walking on uneven terrain, and exposure to construction environments and weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed for field coordination.
- Environmental factors may include but are not limited to extreme temperatures (e.g., cold, heat), fumes, variable weather conditions, outdoor work, and noise.
- This is a full‑time, on‑site position based near Suffolk, Virginia (Hampton Roads).
- The Construction Manager will be required to work on site Monday through Friday during standard business hours, with occasional extended or weekend hours depending on project demands.
- Travel within the Hampton Roads region may be required to support other active projects or client meetings.
- Hybrid or remote work is not available for this position due to the field‑based nature of the role.
