Job DescriptionThe Synthetic Molecules Analytical Research and Development (SM ARD) organization within Abb Vie provides comprehensive analytical support for projects in early stages of development. SM ARD begins supporting projects while still in discovery phase, and continues supporting the projects until they advance into late stage. SM ARD s functions entail comprehensive analytical method development, validation, and testing at all stages of the project;
as well as thorough analytical support for resolving various project-specific challenges.
Abb Vie is seeking a highly motivated individual with a proven track record of accomplishment and an interest and expertise in analytical chemistry to join the Pilot Plant Analytical Flex Team. The successful candidate will be actively involved in development and validation of analytical methods, supporting API campaigns, testing large volumes of samples, and interfacing with Pilot Plant customers. The Scientist would also serve as a mentor and supervisor to junior analysts on the team.
The Pilot Plant Flex Team is a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The team s primary focus is analytical services and support for Abb Vie s pilot plants in Lake County. The team members work at both North Chicago and Abbott Park sites.
Responsibilities- Overall, would serve in a hybrid role as both a lab analyst and a supervisor.
- Plan and perform analytical tasks competently and independently within a timely fashion and generate reliable results in a consistent manner. The tasks entail both routine sample testing and method development and validation.
- Serve as analytical expert and supervisor on the team; guide and assist junior analysts as needed, with method development, validation, troubleshooting, etc. Be effective at designing experiments for junior analysts.
- Documentation of experimental activities and results in a GMP compliant fashion, with careful attention to details, using an electronic data acquisition and management systems, and electronic laboratory notebooks. Verification of other analysts work.
- Effective and timely communications on issues, problems, and solutions; both within the team and to the customers and colleagues outside the team.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Author and revise analytical methods, reports, and memos.
- Effectively interface with customers and colleagues, and coordinate assignments and timely execution of tasks among multiple analysts on the team.
- The ideal candidate would have at least 5-7 years of relevant job experience if BS or at least 3-5 years of relevant experience if MS. Depending on education and work experience the position may be filled as either grade 15 or 16.
- Must have analytical chromatographic chemistry experience, preferably from working in a GMP-type or QC-type lab environment.
- Experience with HPLC and GMP documentation is required. Experience with GC and/or Mass Spectroscopy is highly desired. Experience with method development and/or validation preferred.
- Experience with instrument troubleshooting preferred.
- Should be a quick learner, with interest in analytical chemistry, and experienced at working with lab scale analytical equipment and instrumentation.
- Must be open to working flexible hours, including 10 – 20 % off-shift work (late evenings, early mornings, or weekends).
- Must be adaptable and flexible overall due to constantly changing timelines and task priorities.
- Must be flexible day-by-day and willing to divide his/her time between North Chicago and Abbott Park sites.
- The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
