Job Overview

Abb Vie's Operations Business Insights (OBI) group is transforming Abb Vie operations to enable the use of data and analytics to drive world‑class innovation, performance, and agility in service of our patients worldwide. The Senior Data Scientist will build and oversee predictive and prescriptive models, manage end‑to‑end delivery of data science applications, and serve as a key contributor to group strategy and thought leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Operate cross‑functionally in collaboration with OBI‑aligned data scientists, senior functional leaders, and business partners.
  • Consult with business users to analyze requirements and recommend solutions that anticipate future impact of changing business needs.
  • Identify and implement technology transfer opportunities for data science methods into functional areas, spearheading the adoption of new methods and expanding the footprint of impactful data science.
  • Develop advanced analytical models and techniques using supervised and unsupervised machine learning, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling.
  • Mentor and coach related team members.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and collaborate with other statistical and data science teams across Abb Vie.
  • Collaborate with OBI academic partners and Abb Vie Innovation Center on research projects and proofs of concept.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate with 6 years of experience, Master’s degree with 5 years of experience, or PhD in a related quantitative field (Data Science, Statistics, Predictive Analytics, or similar). Advanced degree holders with quantitative or engineering undergrads such as chemistry/chemical engineering, mathematics, or other engineering degrees are preferred.
  • Experience in the full life‑cycle of building, deploying, monitoring, and evolving complex data science applications, including Agile project management processes.
  • Self‑starter who can align, adapt, and manage changing requirements; self‑learner capable of quickly becoming effective in new tools, concepts, and academic findings relevant to OBI and stakeholder needs.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, collaborative, dynamic environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in Quality, Manufacturing, or Central operations context in a large pharmaceutical environment.
  • Awareness and experience in key industry trends such as Factory 4.0 or Smart Manufacturing in pharmaceutical operations.
  • Experience in technology transfer and innovation practices through consulting or corporate roles supporting such practices.
  • Experience working with GxP systems.
  • Experience in MLOps/SLC in pharmaceutical operations.
  • Experience with Deep Learning models;
    Apache Spark, Tensor Flow, Keras, or common analogues.
  • Working experience of OS Linux/Unix.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
Tools and Skills
  • Expert knowledge of statistical and machine learning methods, with expertise in modeling and business analytics.
  • Data science tools such as Knime, Dataiku, AWS Sage Maker, statistical languages and packages (R, Python, Julia, SAS), data visualization tools (Tableau, ggplot, matplotlib, R/Shiny, Qlik), data manipulation tools (SQL, Spark, PySpark, Hive), and cloud environments (Azure, AWS).
  • Expertise in designing and developing processes and systems to consolidate and analyze data, including missing data analysis, data quality, master data management, and best practices for modeling.
  • Expertise in storytelling with data and communicating complex topics to audiences of all levels.
  • Able to drive internal learning through journal clubs, internal data science education sessions, and continuously deepen team knowledge in data science practice and research.
Compensation

Salary range: $26,000 – $28,000 (Intel area). Compensation will vary by location and experience. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and short‑term incentive programs.
