Responsibilities
  • The Engineering professional designs, maintains, and optimizes specialized equipment used to manufacture drugs, ensuring efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance (like FDA rules) for equipment used in drug packaging, from oral solid dose tablets/capsules to complex medical devices. Focus areas include equipment development, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), troubleshooting, automation (PLCs, HMI), process improvement, and collaboration across teams for new product integration.
  • The Senior Equipment Engineer is responsible for ownership, qualification, process ownership, and continuous improvement of advanced automated manufacturing equipment, including systems that integrate robotics, machine vision, servo motion control, pneumatics, and PLC-based automation.
  • Experience with Uhlmann Thermoforming and IBC bottle filling is a plus, as well as custom medical device sub-assembly and final assembly technology solutions.
  • Serve as the primary owner for automated manufacturing equipment, covering mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control subsystems.
  • Develop and execute equipment qualification protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ) to support regulated manufacturing operations.
  • Support new product introductions by adapting equipment tooling, automation sequences, and test protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve throughput, yield, and OEE through equipment enhancements.
  • Partner with equipment vendors on upgrades, retrofits, spare parts management, and FAT/SAT processes.
  • Provide training and mentorship to technicians and junior engineers on equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS standards and lockout/tagout requirements during interventions.
  • Demonstrate how design changes consider potential defects and failure modes; mitigate risk with early risk assessments and fallback strategies.
  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and direct engineering aspects of projects of major scope; manage multiple projects and align with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Establish project objectives and technical criteria for evaluating results; use PM tools to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Define roles and responsibilities; monitor project work to meet performance objectives and control changes to deliverables and documents.
  • Close projects by finalizing activities across PM process groups and ensuring compliance with engineering standards and customer needs.
  • Develop solutions for complex problems; integrate regulatory and operational needs; perform cost/benefit analysis and seek input from cross-functional teams.
  • Mentor others, establish relationships with customers, and balance project economics with customer interests.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience with 8+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. Post-graduate education is desired.
  • Proven technical contributions to product or process development or improvement; strong application of technical concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to solve problems of complex scope; exercises judgment and advises management on actions.
  • Strong collaboration skills across diverse groups within engineering and with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present clearly.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
  • Technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries (preferred).
  • Experience with financial systems and fiscal control; formal Project Management training (preferred).

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting. Individual compensation will depend on geographic location and other factors.
