Description

The Port laborer will be responsible for all phases of work related to cargo loading and unloading. They must transfer cargo to/from safely and efficiently as a rigger or light equipment operator, as well as lashing/securing cargo. Also responsible for cargo inspection, and marking down any damaged or lost items, must respond to oil /petroleum spills or uneven terrain under varying weather conditions, perform in confined work spaces, inside tanks of varying dimensions.

Must be able to keep track of cargo inventory and document irregularities. Loading and unloading requires knowledge of loading equipment, such as forklifts, trucks and skid steers, the proper techniques for lifting and stowing cargo, and correct handling of hazardous materials. In addition, workers must be able to follow orders attentively and keep work areas clean.

Job Duties

• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including hoppers and other tools as directed by management.
• Clean and prepare for jobs as needed, including sweeping, removing and properly disposing of debris and waste materials.
• Shovel materials to and from job areas, including asphalt and dirt.
• Follow all safety procedures on the job site and report violations immediately to management.
• Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis.
• Load and unload material from trucks both manually and with the use of equipment.
• Report incidents immediately to safety director, foreman or HR in accordance with incident reporting procedures established by the company.

• Must work well independently and with others

• Teamwork skills and at least 1 year of experience in a similar role, preferably in an industrial setting.
• Knowledge of rig operations and maintenance.
• Experience in stevedoring is advantageous.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a TWIC card.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening, physical, and background check.

• Physically demanding role requiring climbing, lifting (over 50 lbs. occasionally), and other physical activities.
• Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
