Job Overview
The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council is seeking a Citizen Science Project Assistant to support its Citizen Science Program and assist with an individual citizen science project. This part‑time, time‑limited independent contractor role is expected to work approximately 10-20 hours per week at a rate of $20 per hour, not exceeding 520 hours over the course of the position. The position is based in North Charleston, SC and primarily supports conservation and fisheries management initiatives.
PrimaryDuties and Responsibilities
- Create SAFMC Release participant accounts in the Sci Fish platform.
- Assist with onboarding new SAFMC Release participants by sharing login details, training materials, and troubleshooting issues.
- Support SAFMC Release data QA/QC efforts with potential assistance in data analysis or visualization.
- Coordinate the SAFMC Release Participant Recognition Program by tracking milestones and managing logistics for awards.
- Work with the Citizen Science Program and outreach staff to identify new outreach opportunities and develop training materials.
- Perform additional duties as required to support the Citizen Science Program.
Candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree in biology, fisheries, natural resource management, environmental education, or a related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, proficiency with MS Office, and familiarity with databases and data QA/QC are essential. Knowledge of South Atlantic fisheries and experience with fish identification are preferred.
Additional InformationThis position reports directly to the Citizen Science Program Manager and may require limited overnight travel. While most tasks will be office‑based, participation in outreach events is expected. Hiring materials must be submitted by January 29, 2026, at 5 pm EST.
