Payloads Design Engineer (Associate)
Client:
Commercial Airplanes (BCA) – Part of ICONMA.
Location:
North Charleston, SC.
We’re looking for an Associate Design Engineer to join our Interiors Responsibility Center South Carolina (IRCSC) team. This role focuses on managing systems associated with airplane interiors, including light‑limiting headers, closets, partitions, stow bins and wiring.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist with developing, integrating, and documenting structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design.
- Assist the performance of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
- Support the management of supplier performance, test and production activities, and coordinate with suppliers to optimize design and achieve program goals.
- Support IRC production floor during first‑of‑ or complex builds.
- Assist in the development of new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
- Support investigation of emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
- Develop, maintain and modify payload system and component designs, using 3‑D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- 9+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Bachelor’s + 9 years, Master’s + 7 years).
- 5+ years of experience with 3‑D modeling (Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, Sketch Up, Pro‑E, 3DX, etc.) or equivalent experience.
- Experience working within cross‑functional engineering and production teams.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 9+ years experience in aerospace engineering, design and engineering release processes.
- Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Working knowledge of standard business software (MS Office Suite).
- Ability to meet plan delivery deadlines when assigned.
- Understanding and demonstrated experience with FAA Title 14 Part 25 and/or EASA equivalent.
