About the RoleJennings Air and Mechanical has an immediate opening for a Site Safety Manager to oversee all safety programs, policies, and procedures for a large industrial plumbing project in North Charleston, SC. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company safety standards, to maintain a safe working environment for all employees, subcontractors, and visitors on site.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and manage the project-specific Safety Plan in accordance with OSHA, state, and company requirements.
- Conduct daily job site safety inspections, hazard assessments, and corrective actions as needed.
- Lead daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with safe work practices and project-specific safety requirements.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including training logs, inspection reports, and incident documentation.
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for all safety-related matters, liaising with project managers, supervisors, and regulatory agencies.
- Conduct onboarding and safety orientation for all new employees and subcontractors.
- Enforce use of PPE and verify proper permitting for hot work, confined spaces, and other high-risk activities.
- Support a proactive safety culture through coaching, positive reinforcement, and consistent communication.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing safety on construction sites, preferably in industrial or plumbing/mechanical projects.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards and state/local safety regulations.
- Certification(s) strongly preferred: OSHA 30, CHST, CSP, STS-C or equivalent.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software (if applicable).
- Ability to walk, climb, and stand for extended periods across uneven terrain.
- Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Work in outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather.
