An employee performs routine custodial tasks and operates a school bus on assigned routes under general supervision, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for students.

• Sweeps, mops, vacuums, strips, waxes, and buffs floor surfaces.
• Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap.
• Clears windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.
• Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.
• Empty trash receptacles and deposits recyclables in proper containers.
• Sweeps sidewalks and walkways, shovels snow, and applies de‑icing compounds as necessary.
• Replaces burned‑out light bulbs.
• Prepares requisition forms to obtain necessary supplies.
• Sets traps for rodents and other pests, discarding trapped animals appropriately.
• Performs pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the bus, documenting inspections as required by Transportation Department Operating Instructions.
• Reports mechanical defects to the appropriate supervisor or mechanic.
• Operates the assigned bus on the route(s) and schedule provided.
• Reports route changes or added students to the Zone Transportation Supervisor.
• Obeys all traffic laws, school bus regulations and safety standards.
• Maintains discipline of students on the bus, establishing a discipline plan in accordance with school objectives.
• Discharges students only at authorized stop locations and transports only authorized students.
• Keeps the bus clean and free of items that may present a safety problem.
• Reports accidents as required and remains at the scene until released.
• Completes time cards and required reports.
• Secures the bus after each run, ensuring proper parking, inspection, and door/window security.
• Maintains acceptable relationships with parents/guardians and school personnel.
• Performs other related tasks as required.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in custodial work and/or driving large vehicles preferred.
• Any equivalent training or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
• Must obtain and maintain a Bus CDL and be available to drive as needed.

• General knowledge of janitorial methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform medium‑physical work.
• Independent judgment and initiative in completing assignments.
• Knowledge of safe practices and procedures for school bus operation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, school bus regulations, and safety standards.
• Ability to detect and report mechanical defects.
• Ability to maintain discipline and a clean order on the bus.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as carrying up to 50 lbs of force occasionally.

Full‑time for twelve months. Salary based on state and local salary schedules.

Salary: $80,000.00 – $95,000.00 annually.
