General Statement of Duties

The Plumber is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of plumbing systems and fixtures across Rutherford County Schools facilities. This position supports the safe and efficient operation of school buildings by ensuring plumbing systems comply with applicable codes, health standards, and district requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including water supply lines, drainage systems, fixtures, valves, and related components

* Diagnose plumbing issues and determine appropriate corrective actions

* Repair or replace sinks, toilets, faucets, water heaters, and other plumbing fixtures

* Respond to plumbing-related work orders and emergency calls in a timely manner

* Perform preventive maintenance to reduce system failures and water damage

* Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals

* Ensure all work complies with applicable state and local plumbing codes

* Coordinate work with other maintenance staff and contractors as needed

* Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent

* Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles safely

* Follow district safety procedures and OSHA regulations

* Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge of plumbing systems, materials, tools, and methods

* Ability to diagnose and repair plumbing issues efficiently

* Working knowledge of applicable plumbing codes and safety standards

* Ability to read technical drawings and specifications

* Skill in the safe use of hand and power tools

* Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks

* Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and school personnel

* Ability to maintain professionalism in a school environment

Minimum Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent

* Minimum of three (3) years of experience in plumbing or related trade work

* Valid North Carolina driver's license

* Ability to obtain and maintain a valid NC plumbing license if required by assignment

Preferred Qualifications

* North Carolina plumbing license (Journeyman or higher)

* Experience working in institutional, commercial, or school facilities

* Experience with preventative maintenance programs

Physical Requirements

* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

* Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces

* Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Work Environment

* School buildings, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and outdoor areas

* Exposure to water, noise, dust, and mechanical hazards

* Occasional after-hours or emergency work may be required
