Parks and Recreation General Grounds Maintenance Worker; Part-time

Person County Government is seeking a reliable and motivated Part‑Time General Grounds Maintenance Worker to join the Recreation, Arts and Parks Department. This position plays an important role in helping maintain safe, clean, and welcoming parks, facilities, and public spaces for the community.

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled maintenance tasks related to the upkeep of County parks, grounds, and buildings. Duties may include groundskeeping, basic facility maintenance, and general upkeep to support recreational and community activities.

The employee works under the general supervision of a Lead Worker, Parks and Recreation Director, or designated Supervisor. Performance is evaluated through direct observation and based on the quality, efficiency, and timeliness of completed assignments.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.

This is a non‑exempt part‑time position. Part‑time employees cannot work more than 1,000 hours per calendar year.

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

• Mows lawns; trims and edges around walkways, flower beds, and fences; operates and maintains lawnmowers, tractors and some power and hand tools; aerates and reseeds lawns; and assists in the preparation of athletic facilities for schedules program and sports.
• Plants trees, bushes, shrubs, grasses and other plants.
• Maintains, by way of pruning, weeding, irrigating and cutting, etc.: trees, bushes, shrubs, grasses and other plants.
• Installs and repairs fencing.
• Paints stripes on parking lots.
• Loads plants, trees and shrubbery on trucks for transport.
• Prepares and distributes mulch.
• Keep streets, roads and pathways clean and free of natural debris.
• Puts down ice melt and keeps steps, sidewalks, and parking lots clear of snow and ice.
• Operates light‑sized motorized equipment.
• Makes minor repairs and performs preventative maintenance to motorized equipment.
• Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and all other general cleanings of facilities.
• Operates a variety of hand and specialty tools associated with the landscaping trade fields.
• Completes time sheets.
• Performs related work as required.

• Graduation from high school.
• Experience in grounds and maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
