Overview
The Buyer works under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager and is responsible for assuring compliance with company policies, applicable government regulations and laws and the higher of ethical standards while establishing sources for quality conforming materials and services with competitive pricing and timely deliveries. The Buyer will continually seek new and alternative ideas, products, and materials whose adoption might improve company efficiency and profitability.
Responsibilities- Bachelor's degree in Business or Supply Chain Management preferred. Equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree required.
- Previous experience in an Aerospace/Defense materials purchasing department or manufacturing industry preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible purchasing related experiences in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Mfg Pro/QAD/MQ1 desired. Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge/experience preferred. Well-developed understanding of business principles with comparative, quantitative and communication skills.
- Conduct the appropriate level of price/cost analysis to obtain the most favorable economic purchase with the emphasis that cost reductions will be critical. This position will take the lead on Non-Inventory activities.
- Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Helps coordinate as appropriate quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers. Works with Production Control, Engineering, Accounting, and Quality departments.
- Creates reports for cost savings for non-production items as requested.
- Source supplies and negotiate vendor contracts resulting in total cost reductions, quality of products, and on-time delivery.
- Maintain records of goods and materials ordered within ERP system.
- Compare product deliveries with issued purchase orders and follow up with vendors for discrepancies.
