Southport, NC (On-Site – Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point)

Brown Technologies is currently seeking an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) who is a self-starter supporting our U.S. Army customer at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU) in Southport, North Carolina.
DESCRIPTION:
The Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) will support assigned Army information systems by ensuring full compliance with the Risk Management Framework (RMF), DoDI 8510.01, and NIST SP 800-53 security control baselines. The ISSO will manage security-related policies, procedures, and compliance documentation to enforce Information Assurance principles across Army systems.
This role requires strong experience in achieving and maintaining Authority to Operate (ATO) packages, working within eMASS, and performing technical and compliance-based security assessments. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of operating in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as ISSO for assigned systems, ensuring compliance with RMF, DoDI 8510.01, and NIST SP 800-53
Develop, maintain, and manage RMF Security Authorization packages
Create and update System Security Plans (SSP), Contingency Plans (CP), POA&Ms, and related artifacts
Lead development of RMF packages to obtain and maintain Authority to Operate (ATO)
Register systems in eMASS and maintain required control entries and documentation
Conduct technical and non-technical internal audits and compliance testing
Perform vulnerability assessments and coordinate testing procedures
Analyze and validate implementation of applicable Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
Identify security risks and recommend mitigation strategies
Ensure ongoing compliance with Army cybersecurity and Information Assurance requirements
Additional Duties:
Coordinate with system administrators, network engineers, and leadership to resolve security findings
Support security inspections, audits, and continuous monitoring activities
Provide cybersecurity status updates and reporting as required
Respond rapidly to evolving security requirements and operational changes
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Cybersecurity, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other STEM discipline (experience may substitute for degree)
Minimum of 8 years of ISSO experience
Experience with all phases of the ATO process
Hands-on experience with eMASS
Security+ or other DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification
Ability to work on-site daily in Southport, NC
Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
U.S. Citizen with an active Secret Clearance
CISSP or other DoD 8570/8140 Level III certification
