Recreational Therapist, LRT I – ECU Health

Position Summary

The Recreational Therapist provides safe, expedient, cost‑effective recreational services. The RT works in an inpatient psychiatric setting with patients whose ability to cope with daily tasks is threatened or impaired by bio‑psychosocial maladjustments. Recreational Therapists are involved in clinical decision‑making such as patient assessment, treatment selection and reassessment of treatment efficacy, goal‑directed care planning, and patient education.

Minimum Requirements
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • BS/BA or higher in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or Recreation Administration with an option in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Nationally credentialed as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
  • Maintain State of North Carolina Licensure as a Licensed Recreational Therapist through the State of North Carolina Recreation Certification Board (NCBRTL)
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification upon hire and maintained during employment
  • Must be able to successfully complete Crisis Intervention Training
