How you’ll contributeA Medical Office Receptionist who excels in this role:
- Greets visitors and communicates with patients and providers.
- Places, answers, and directs phone calls and distributes messages, including retrieval and distribution of answering service messages.
- Completes all aspects of the check-in/check-out process.
- Enters and updates patient demographics and insurance information.
- Collects any copay/coinsurance balances for the current visit and any outstanding balances from patients.
- Handles information requests, including reviewing files and records, answering inquiries, and responding to incoming work requests.
- Completes pre-appointment checklists and prepares accordingly.
- Organizes, coordinates, and schedules meetings and appointments.
- Schedules referrals for patients to be seen by other physicians/specialists as ordered, sends all required records, and notifies patients as needed.
- Coordinates workflow and compiles records of office activities.
- Monitors and addresses all front office task buckets in a timely manner.
- Prepares statistical reports and performs clerical functions such as preparing and sending outgoing mail, distributing incoming mail, maintaining filing systems, entering data and maintaining databases, typing documents and correspondence, photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
- Keeps the office area neat and tidy.
- Monitors and maintains a log of needed office supplies.
- Controls basic accounting functions such as checking invoices, making deposits, and managing petty cash in offices or departments where payments are made or collected.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service, projects, and committees as assigned.
- Adheres to and supports policies and procedures of the STRHS.
- Works scheduled shifts, including overtime, when necessary.
- Accepts all call schedule as directed.
- Maintains a neat and professional appearance in compliance with the existing dress code.
- Completes other tasks, within the scope of the position, as delegated by practice leads, supervisors, managers, and the Market Director.
Educational Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
Additional requirements include:
- Medical front office experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
