Overview

Schedule:

Monday – Thursday 8 am – 5 pm;
Friday 8 am – 1 pm. Full-time position.

Essential Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

Assist in the delivery of acute health care and patient care management within a fast-paced environment. This position acts as both a Medical Assistant and an Endoscopy Tech for Hugh Chatham Health Gastro. The Endoscopy Tech will sterilize and prepare rooms and equipment, such as scopes, before and after procedures as directed. Supports and assists physicians and registered nurses with procedures as directed.

Verifies proper equipment functioning and performs safety checks. Maintains and/or repairs endoscopic equipment.

Responsibilities by Area

    • Delivers safe, accurate and timely patient care that conforms to HCMH standards and departmental goals.
    • Maintains patient files, records and other information in preferred order.
    • Maintains strictest patient confidentiality.
  • Service
    • Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
    • Takes patient histories and vital signs.
    • Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
    • Gives injections and applies splints and dressings as directed by the physician.
    • Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
    • Assists physicians in preparing for examination, procedures, minor surgeries and physicals.
    • Assists with scheduling of referrals, other tests and treatments.
    • Screens telephone calls for referral to nurse or physician.
    • May call in medication orders to pharmacy upon approval of physician.
    • Maintains clinical and nursing station supplies and equipment.
    • Completes audits, environment of care rounding, and reports any abnormal findings immediately.
    • Performs laboratory testing as needed when trained and determined to be competent.

Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements of this job:

Education And Formal Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND completion of one of the following programs with proof of passing certification/licensure:
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
  • Registered Medical Assistant
  • Emergency Medical Technician or eligible to sit for the certification exam
  • Certified Endoscopy Tech

BLS certification

Work Experience

1 year of experience in health care preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times. Actively functions as a patient advocate. Must have thorough knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care.
