Job Summary and Qualifications

The OB Sonographer performs routine and complex sonographic assessment of maternal-fetal and gynecologic conditions with minimal guidance and supervision. Exams include Routine Outpatients and Inpatients, which are done portably if needed for inpatients /Emergency/OR. The sonographer will have a reasonable knowledge of various fetal conditions and anomalies as well as an understanding of contributing high risk maternal factors. In addition, the scope of practice of the sonographer includes those procedures, and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience.

The OB sonographer will be the subject matter expert for high risk OB protocols and train other Sonographers and Residents on these protocols. They will, in collaboration with the Senior Sonographer or Preceptor, provide quality overview of the specialty protocols. The OB Sonographers will also assist in performing exams on NICU patients when available. Continuing education is a vital part of this specialty.

OB Sonographers will be required to rotate call on the schedule.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Required

    Education:

    Graduate of an Accredited Ultrasound Program
  • Preferred Education:

    Associates Degree, or higher, in related technological field.
  • Required License/ ARDMS (OB/GYN). Certification: BLS Preferred License: ARDMS (Fetal Echo, Pediatric), Abdomen, RVT
  • Required Experience:

    3 years previous experience in ultrasound routinely performing OB/GYN ultrasound exams.
  • Preferred Experience:

    3 years previous experience in ultrasound with experience in high risk obstetrical ultrasound. Expert knowledge of fetal, maternal, and non-OB female pelvic anatomy, pathology and disease process
