Within our Retail locations, our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in each pharmacy by acting as a role model, demonstrating genuine care and setting the bar for the pharmacy team.

DSP

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Travel the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled, overseeing the pharmacy and acting as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts.
  • Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following and directing the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and utilize safety guardrails.
  • Assume Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty.
  • Collaborate with patients and healthcare teams to resolve insurance or medication issues, demonstrating empathy and genuine care.
  • Offer and deliver immunizations, supporting Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, focusing on best practices and protecting cold‑chain products.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs while contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
  • Maintain clinical and technical skills through required training and continuous learning.
  • Provide pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS Health policies to support patient safety and a healthy workplace.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions
  • Travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus
    • Concentrate on tasks for extended periods and pivot quickly between tasks.
    • Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.
  • Customer Service and Team Orientation
    • Actively seek ways to help people in a friendly manner.
    • Notice and respond appropriately to patient reactions.
  • Communication Skills
    • Use verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues.
    • Practice active listening, asking questions, and maintaining appropriate tempo.
  • Mathematical Reasoning
    • Apply math to solve problems, such as determining total tablets, day’s supply, and bottle counts.
  • Problem Resolution
    • Identify challenging interactions and select the best course of action.
  • Physical Demands
    • Remain mobile, lift, scan, and bag items, reach overhead and reach out with arms or legs.
    • Perform repetitive hand and finger movements.
    • Lift up to 20 lbs on occasion; frequently lift up to 10 lbs, and occasionally lift light objects.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1‑2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
