Within our Retail locations, our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in each pharmacy by acting as a role model, demonstrating genuine care and setting the bar for the pharmacy team.
DSPResponsibilities
- Live our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Travel the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled, overseeing the pharmacy and acting as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts.
- Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following and directing the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and utilize safety guardrails.
- Assume Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty.
- Collaborate with patients and healthcare teams to resolve insurance or medication issues, demonstrating empathy and genuine care.
- Offer and deliver immunizations, supporting Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
- Manage pharmacy inventory, focusing on best practices and protecting cold‑chain products.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs while contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
- Maintain clinical and technical skills through required training and continuous learning.
- Provide pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible.
- Comply with federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS Health policies to support patient safety and a healthy workplace.
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
- Travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Complete required training within designated timeframe.

- Concentrate on tasks for extended periods and pivot quickly between tasks.
- Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.

- Notice and respond appropriately to patient reactions.

- Use verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues.
- Practice active listening, asking questions, and maintaining appropriate tempo.

- Apply math to solve problems, such as determining total tablets, day’s supply, and bottle counts.
- Problem Resolution
- Identify challenging interactions and select the best course of action.
- Physical Demands
- Remain mobile, lift, scan, and bag items, reach overhead and reach out with arms or legs.
- Perform repetitive hand and finger movements.
- Lift up to 20 lbs on occasion; frequently lift up to 10 lbs, and occasionally lift light objects.
- Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
- 1‑2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
