Position Highlights

  • This job qualifies for a $6,000 sign‑on bonus, provided the candidate meets the eligibility requirements.

Must Have
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certification by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO) in Ophthalmology at the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) level.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association OR American Red Cross) required.
  • One year work experience, preferably in an eye‑related field.
Nice To Have
  • Previous work experience in ophthalmology preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Perform preliminary screenings as ordered via physician, including detailed patient medical/ocular histories, visual acuity, tonometry, lensometry, pupil exam, instill ocular medication, and visual field testing.
  • Maintain assigned ophthalmic exam lanes/equipment, clean ophthalmic equipment according to guidelines, and keep exam rooms stocked and organized.
  • Interact with patients/families, coworkers, and physicians in a professional, courteous manner while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in professional development by maintaining required competencies and continuing education hours per JCAHPO guidelines; maintain current CPR certification during employment.
  • Under physician direction may perform prescription refills following standard guidelines.
  • Demonstrate dedication to patient service and care as a role model.
  • Perform other duties incidental to the work described here based on certification level.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer skills and experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred.
  • Solid understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in basic preliminary ophthalmic testing per COA certification.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and manage time effectively.
  • Recognize common safety hazards and take precautions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
  • Focused and organized, teamwork oriented.

  • Clean, comfortable office environment.
  • Moderate noise level.
