Hours:
1st Shift, days will vary. No supervisory responsibilities, no travel. Pay commensurate with experience.
Full‑time, twenty‑four (24) hour day shift in the Laboratory. Eligible for a commitment bonus up to $10,000.
Job SummaryPerform medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analysis independently, without direct supervision, to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Attend and participate in hospital and laboratory compliance in‑services.
Minimum Job Qualifications- Regulatory Requirements:
- Special Vocational Preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of vocational education (from a medical technology program), on‑job training, continuing education specific to this laboratory, and experience in less responsible jobs leading to higher responsibilities. Training must ensure the individual has:
- The skills required for proper specimen collection, including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation.
- The skills required for implementing all standard laboratory procedures.
- The skills required for performing each test method and proper instrument use.
- The skills required for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration procedures related to each test performed.
- A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
- The skills required to implement the quality control policies and procedures of the laboratory.
- An awareness of the factors that influence test results.
- Special Vocational Preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of vocational education (from a medical technology program), on‑job training, continuing education specific to this laboratory, and experience in less responsible jobs leading to higher responsibilities. Training must ensure the individual has:
- Certification:
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA, ASMT), Medical Technologist (ASCP), Medical Technologist (AMT, HEW), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT, ASCP, AMT) or equivalent certification with educational requirements described in the Federal Register for supervising high‑complexity testing.
- If the Chief Technologist does not qualify as a director, technical supervisor, or doctor of medicine, the general supervisor must meet the following requirements for education and experience:
- Earned a doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical terminology from an accredited institution and have at least one year laboratory training or experience in high‑complexity testing, or
- Earned an associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory from an accredited institution, with at least two years laboratory training or experience; or
- Have education and training equivalent to at least 60 semester hours, including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses (six chemistry, six biology, and twelve of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology), and laboratory training that includes either an approved clinical laboratory training program or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty that involves high‑complexity testing.
- CPR certification (or eligible for certification within the first 12 months of employment).
- Eligible for MLT certification within the first 12 months of employment.
- Perform only those tests authorized by the laboratory director and requiring a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training, or experience.
- Conduct tests in the following areas:
Hematology/Coagulation (45%), Urinalysis (10%), Chemistry (30%), Blood Bank (5%), Serology (1%), Body Fluids (
