Performs polysomnography procedures and related administrative duties as ordered by the medical staff.
Responsibilities- Verifies the existence of an appropriate history and/or examination data in preparation for procedure. (Will not perform tasks independently until graduation from an RT or Polysomnography Associate's degree program).
- When determined competent, performs all polysomnography tests/procedures/scoring approved for the position, and as detailed in the position’s Skills Checklist to include, but not limited to:
Polysomnography procedures, Scores sleep studies. - Communicates with patients or their representatives.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patients served.
- Communicates with team members, physicians and other care providers regarding diagnostic testing.
- Provides oversight and guidance to students and new staff with regard to polysomnograms.
- Sets up and/or maintains equipment and work areas.
- Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Takes an active role in self-development.
- Other duties and responsibilities as needed.
Education Requirements
- Associate’s in Science, Polysomnography or Respiratory Therapy within 6 months of hire.
- Completion of formal training program in neuroelectrodiagnostics, respiratory therapy or sleep diagnostics prior to hire.
Licensure/Certification s
- Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT). Registered with the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists within 9 months of hire.
- BCLS certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
- 6 months experience in Healthcare/Medical Acute Care.
- Previous experience in Respiratory Care, EEG, or Polysomnography preferred.
