Position provides direct administrative support to the Chief of Police, assumes command duties in their absence, leads and supervises subordinates, conducts investigations, manages resources, and fosters community relations. The role serves as liaison between university, campus security, external agencies, and community groups.

- Assist the Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety and assume full supervisory responsibilities during their absence.
- Direct, manage, and evaluate general patrol, investigations, community policing, evidence/records management, communications, parking, security operations, Clery, grant, and policy functions.
- Oversee and coordinate crime prevention, investigative programs, and reporting.
- Assign officers and resources to ensure effective police performance.
- Develop and maintain community relations, coordinate with community policing initiatives and campus stakeholders.
- Represent the Chief in interagency collaboration with university departments, local law enforcement, and community groups.
- Make full decision‑making authority on behalf of the Chief for HR matters: hiring, promotion, salary adjustments, reclassification, and discipline.
- Prepare complete, concise reports; evaluate pending investigations and maintain investigative records.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, or 7 years of sworn law‑enforcement experience, or 9 years overall law‑enforcement–type experience.
- At least 3 years supervisory experience comparable to a Police Lieutenant.
- Certified Law Enforcement Officer in North Carolina.
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice or related field, 6 years supervisory experience in a higher‑education campus law‑enforcement setting. - Preferred:
Advanced Law Enforcement certification (NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or NC Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission). General Instructor certification also preferred. - License/Certification: NC BLET.
