Income Maintenance Caseworker II

Location:

County of Pamlico, NC

Responsible for determining and/or redetermining applicants’ eligibility for one or two income maintenance programs in the County Department of Social Services, including AFDC‑Foster Care, AFDC‑EA Programs, Food Stamps, Medicaid, and County Special Assistance. Duties include interviewing clients, collecting required data, completing initial applications, verifying information, determining eligibility, and conducting scheduled program reviews. Employees explain program requirements, advise on options, and refer clients to other services as needed.

Typically reports to an Income Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Interview clients and gather information regarding family composition, finances, employment, and health status.
  • Complete and process initial eligibility applications and verify information obtained.
  • Conduct intake, processing, or review of cases as required.
  • Perform redeterminations or periodic reviews to reverify eligibility.
  • Adhere to Food Stamps, AFDC, Medicaid, and County Special Assistance manuals and agency procedural guides.
  • Submit correspondence and memoranda to state regulatory agencies and interpret policy directives.
  • Participate in quality reviews and ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Human Services Technology, Social Services, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or related field; or
  • High school diploma with two years of paraprofessional or public contact experience, including interviewing and data collection, with at least one year in an income maintenance program; or
  • High school diploma with three years of paraprofessional/public contact experience and related tasks; or
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and computational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, applicants, and the public.
  • Ability to explain and interpret rules, policies, and procedures.
