Job Summary:
The Assistant BIM Coordinator acts as the key technical and implementation source for BIM for assigned projects and maintains effective relationships with design, project, and client teams. Provides guidance to estimators and project managers on the added cost to meet goals for project BIM implementation. Analyzes design for assigned MEP conversions to create workable models and ensure constructability. Checks for quality and accuracy of models, extracts quantities, performs clash detection and resolution, analyzes scheduling costs, resolves workforce conflicts, and creates documentation and representations.
Must be able to translate 2D drawings and specifications into complete 3D building information models at advanced levels.
- Lead coordination effort for the company; direct Drafter / Spoolers as needed. Attend coordination meetings
- Complete understanding of job specs, schedule, and construction sequencing.
- Labeling, dimensioning, and printing of drawings;
Placing of Trimble points. - Provide assistance in creating, updating, and maintaining libraries of equipment and fittings for the CADD system.
- Maintain and file all sketches and drawings by name-number location.
- Provide detailed shop drawings of duct and piping as required for the complete project, within the time frames provided by the project manager or department manager.
- Provide piping assembly drawings for Pipe Fab Shop, Sheet Metal Shop, and/or Prefabrication Shops.
- Learn all necessary information regarding mechanical installations that will apply to CADD systems.
- Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, the relation of one part to another, and the relation of various parts to the whole structure or project.
- Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
- Make any adjustments or changes necessary or desired.
- Draw charts for the representation of statistical data.
- Draws finished designs from sketches.
- Uses computer-assisted drafting and design (CADD) equipment and software – Revit, AutoCAD MEP.
- Minimum of three years in a related role (BIM, drafting, coordination) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Degree or training in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Proven ability to work with design, project, and client teams.
- Comfortable attending and contributing to coordination meetings.
Software proficiency:
- Revit
- AutoCAD MEP
- Trimble (for point placement)
