Smart Infrastructure’s Electrification & Automation (EA) team delivers a full range of energy distribution systems and solutions that power today’s electrical grids—and shape tomorrow’s. From electric-vehicle charging and photovoltaic inverters to medium‑voltage distribution equipment and automation solutions, our portfolio supports the evolving needs of a more reliable, sustainable, and future‑ready grid.
Our U.S. headquarters in Wendell, North Carolina is a hub for engineering, manufacturing, and assembly. The site produces EV chargers, photovoltaic solutions, motor‑control centers, retrofit and replacement breakers, and more—all contributing to the transformation of how energy is delivered and consumed.
We are looking for a Manager of Mechanical Commodities. This position will be based in Wendell, NC.
The Manager of Mechanical Commodities leads a team of procurement professionals responsible for developing and executing commodity strategies across our U.S. manufacturing sites. This role plays a key part in the success of the Electrification & Automation (EA) Business Unit by improving delivery reliability, reducing risk, and achieving material cost and productivity targets.
You will shape procurement workflows, manage key supplier relationships, and drive financial impact through effective contracting, sourcing decisions, and supplier performance management.
Commodity Strategy & Execution- Develop and implement mechanical commodity strategies aligned with EA business goals and global procurement teams.
- Leverage Siemens‑wide purchasing volumes to optimize cost, productivity, and payment terms.
- Lead sourcing decisions based on total cost, supply continuity, and long‑term value.
- Build, manage, and develop a high‑performing supplier base, including qualification, evaluation, and ongoing relationship management.
- Drive supplier performance in quality, delivery, cost, and innovation.
- Monitor supply market trends to identify opportunities, risks, and productivity improvements.
- Negotiate agreements to reduce risk and ensure secure, reliable supply.
- Oversee contract management, supplier performance metrics, and commercial topics across multiple factories.
- Ensure transparency of purchased volume (PVO), material classification, and procurement KPIs (e.g., PVO, CNI).
- Lead annual business planning for Purchase Price Change (PPC) and Material Cost Productivity (MCP), including monthly reporting and controlling.
- Support logistics and shipping negotiations, including consigned and vendor‑managed inventory.
- Lead and develop the Commodity Management team, including performance evaluation and career development.
- Define workflows, resource planning, and process governance to ensure consistent procurement excellence.
- Provide guidance and problem‑solving support for complex, cross‑functional issues.
- Integrate supplier insights into Product Lifecycle Management and portfolio decisions.
- Establish and improve procurement policies focused on cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in switch gear manufacturing or a similar mechanical commodities environment.
- 3+ years of leadership experience in commodity management, procurement, or supply chain.
- Experience with e‑auctions, cost‑transparency tools, or advanced negotiation techniques.
- Familiarity with global sourcing and supplier development programs.
