Job Description

The Utility Generator Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, and ongoing maintenance of generators and associated utility systems to ensure reliable and efficient performance at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destinations. This role involves monitoring system operations, conducting routine inspections, performing preventative maintenance, and diagnosing issues to identify necessary repairs. The technician is tasked with troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems, implementing corrective measures, and ensuring all systems comply with safety and operational standards.

In addition, the technician maintains detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and performance metrics, supporting long-term system reliability and efficiency. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical skills, problem‑solving abilities, and a commitment to safety, while maintaining equipment in optimal working condition to support uninterrupted operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Generator Installation, Operation, and Maintenance
  • Install, test, operate, and maintain primary and backup generators to ensure readiness during outages or emergencies.
  • Monitor performance, load levels, fuel consumption, and operating conditions.
  • Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Replace or repair faulty parts and components to maintain generator functionality.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, including oil, filter, and coolant changes.
2. Utility Monitoring and Data Management
  • Accurately read, calibrate, and monitor utility meters (propane, diesel, electricity, water, gas, etc.).
  • Record and analyze utility consumption and operational data to detect anomalies or inefficiencies.
  • Adjust generator load and system settings based on readings to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • Maintain detailed logs of generator performance, utility readings, maintenance activities, and repairs.
3. Safety, Compliance, and Environmental Responsibility
  • Ensure all generator and utility operations comply with regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Follow proper safety procedures when working with electrical, fuel, and heavy equipment systems.
  • Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to company safety standards.
  • Ensure proper disposal of environmentally hazardous waste and secure all equipment/enclosures according to safety best practices.
4. Collaboration, Communication, and Administrative Support
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams and other departments to ensure smooth generator and utility operations.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to minimize disruptions and ensure continuous power and utility flow.
  • Provide regular updates on generator and utility system status to management.
  • Perform other role‑related duties as assigned to support overall operations.
Education & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in Utility Management, or a related field preferred; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus.
  • Technical certifications in electrical, mechanical, or utility‑related disciplines (e.g., Generator Maintenance, Electrical Systems) preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in maintaining and operating generators required.
Skills & Specifications
  • Experience working with large‑scale generators or in industrial environments; familiarity with energy management systems and software.
  • In‑depth knowledge and understanding of the safety protocols, concepts, processes, trends, and terminology related to utility meter reading, electrical systems, fuel systems, and generator operation.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient in using tools and diagnostic equipment for generator and utility maintenance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products; familiarity with other role‑related technologies and applications.
