Job Duties
The purpose of this internship is to increase awareness and access to mental health and healthy relationship resources among youth aged 8 to 14 who attend Millstone camp as well as among camp staff and counselors. The intern will work with a faculty member at NCSU department of Agricultural Human Sciences to design a week-long program involving brief group interactions with campers addressing mental health and healthy relationships.
Additionally, the professional will also work with youth who are in behavioral distress or require mental health assistance, and with pairs or groups of youth who experience interpersonal conflict with other campers. The professional will also work with camp program director to support and build capacity among staff to recognize and support low intensity mental health needs of campers. The internship will begin on May 15th and involve 4 weeks off‑camp program preparation and planning at NCSU (remote/hybrid), 6 weeks on‑site at Millstone camp working with staff and campers, and 2 weeks spent reviewing program evaluation data, and preparation and presentation of a brief program report.
During active camp weeks when youth are onsite, the intern, along with other camp staff, will be expected to respond after hours to youth as needs arise.
Those in clinical mental health graduate programs may continue to work with their clinical supervisors to receive supervision for individual and relational client hours through this internship. The team is happy to support and collaborate with the intern's training program to ensure they receive credit where possible. The opportunity to return to this program for a second summer is available. This internship comes with a $5,000 stipend, $900 travel stipend, and room and board for the duration of your stay at Millstone Camp.
