POSITION TITLE:
Multilingual Learner Tutor (ML)

WORKING TITLE: Multilingual Learner Tutor (ML)

SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT: ML Department - Student Support Services

LOCATION: Heide Trask High School

PAY GRADE: $25 per hour

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:
Building Administrator

WORK WEEK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday

WORK HOURS: 29 hours per week

MONTHS/YR: 10 months

POSITION PURPOSE
To work closely with ML Coordinator and team members to offer supplemental lessons that facilitate second language acquisition. Offer supplemental assistance with content assignments as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Strong analytical and organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of second language acquisition
Ability to establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with building level and district staff
Ability to utilize NC English Language Development standards; in addition to the NC Standard Course of Study to plan and implement effective small group instruction

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree and knowledge of best practices for teaching Multilingual Learners
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with ML Coordinator, Team Members and Classroom teachers to provide additional English Language instruction and academic support to ML students.
Effectively plan and implement language development lessons that enhance core instruction.
Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
Work with small groups of ML students to provide instruction in English Language Development.
Tutor a small group of students in a variety of Content Areas; utilizing scientifically research-based materials and lessons.
Review student data to become knowledgeable of student strengths and needs.
Assist in developing students' cognitive capacity, increasing academic skill development, and respect for learning; foster students' self-esteem and motivation through positive interactions. Page 1 of 2
Monitor, document, evaluate, and provide updates on student needs and progress.
Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and performance.
Observe and respond to student needs, emergencies, and/or conflicts that may occur.
Maintain a positive attitude in your work and interaction with staff, ML team and students.
Always treat students with kindness and respect; set a positive example for the students in the ML program.
Maintain confidential information about children, families, and staff.
Exhibit and practice courtesy, respect, and professional judgment in dealing with all students, parents, supervisors, colleagues, school administration, staff, ML Team, etc.
Maintain open lines of communication with other program staff, school staff, and parents/guardians. ? Participate in ML Professional Learning Community and necessary test training. ? Support ML Testing as required throughout the year (WIDA Screener & ACCESS).
Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Must be able to work in office and public school environments and come into direct contact with staff and students
