Position
Description:
The Chorus Teacher is responsible for leading the middle and high school vocal music program. The primary goal is to develop students' musical abilities through vocal performance, music theory, and sight-reading. The teacher will manage all aspects of the choral department, including classroom instruction, concert production, and participation in music events.
Key Responsibilities
* Direct Ensembles:
Lead daily rehearsals for multiple choral groups (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced) across grades 6-12.
* Instruction:
Teach vocal technique, breath support, diction, and part-singing.
* Music Literacy:
Deliver a structured curriculum in music theory and sight-reading (consistent with NC Essential Standards for Music).
* Performance:
Plan and execute school concerts and coordinate performances for school and community events.
* Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
* Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
* Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
* Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
* Ensures that student growth and achievement is measurable, continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
* Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and stakeholders, as measured by Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy school survey results.
* Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
* Demonstrates gains in student performance.
* Participates in training and presentations relevant to teaching the classical curriculum.
* Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating with others.
* Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
* Education:
Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field.
* NC Licensure:
Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina K-12 Music License (Area 00800).
* Candidates eligible for a Residency License (24+ hours of music coursework) are encouraged to apply.
