The purpose of TRIO SSS STEM is to provide services to participants to help improve their academic performance, progress them to degree completion, and prepare them for graduate school and/or professional program. Services provided includes: academic support, enhanced academic advising, career awareness, personal counseling, graduate school preparation, and financial literacy.
Primary Purpose of PositionThe Academic Advisor position will assist participants in TRIO Student Support Services STEM program in making informed decisions course registration; advise participants about the nature and content of curricula and disciplines; help participants to assess their interests, values, and academic skills, and understand these in relation to their STEM major choice and potential career and/or graduate school options; teach participants how to navigate the systems and academic policies at UNCP;
interpret degree completion requirements; evaluate and monitor participants' academic progress and academic performance; provide participants with services and activities to assist meeting the program objectives for TRIO SSS STEM;
collaborate with TRIO STEM staff and campus partners to improve the academic and educational experience of participants; provide required and permissible services to TRIO SSS participants
; other duties deemed necessary to carry out the objectives of the program.

Note:
This is a time-limited, grant funded position through August 31, 2030.
