Instructor and Field Director of Social Work

Position Summary:

The Instructor and Field Director of Social Work position is housed within the School of Education & Human Sciences. The primary function of this faculty position is to teach courses in social work, administer the field education program, research, and serve the community. The instructor is responsible for ensuring that all tasks necessary for the smooth operation of the field experiences in Social Work are completed efficiently and in compliance with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation standards.

The individual collaborates with BSW students, faculty, agencies, and community partners to provide instruction, guidance, and support for field education and social work curriculum. The instructor is expected to prepare for and meet the teaching responsibilities for every class. Normal teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester including field seminar courses. Faculty members are also expected to be scholarly active and engage in service activities in support of the institution and the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Field Education Administration
  • Serve as campus field coordinator for the Social Work program.
  • Collaborate with agencies to recruit and assess field sites based on program need, maintain field placement agreements, and provide orientation and educational training for field supervisors.
  • Coordinate student placement in field sites each semester and conduct site visits throughout the academic year to ensure compliance with CSWE standards and university agreements.
  • Communicate field education requirements, processes, and expectations to students and provide orientation and training for students entering field placements.
  • Facilitate mid‑semester and final evaluations with students and field instructors and offer individual consultation and promptly address issues between students, field supervisors, and seminar instructors.
  • Integrate research and practice knowledge into teaching and field education.
  • Comply with and collaborate on CSWE accreditation requirements, maintain accurate and current records of student placements and assessment data, and participate in CSWE professional networks.
  • Establish and lead an advisory board for the field program (meeting once per semester).
  • Serve as liaison to the NC Field Collaborative.
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the Department Chair and/or College Dean.
Teaching & Advising
  • Prepare syllabi, with all the required elements, for their courses.
  • Update course material regularly to maintain currency in the field.
  • Select and administer assignments and assessments that measure student mastery of the course learning objectives.
  • Post grades to Campbell’s Self‑Service portal by requested deadlines.
  • Maintain campus presence, including at least six office hours per week.
  • Advisement is a form of counseling and thus part of the teaching role and one of the main concerns of the faculty should be timely, reliable, and caring advice.
  • Support students by advising, writing letters of recommendation, helping with career preparation, and other appropriate activities.
Scholarship
  • Remain current in their field of expertise, which may include summer development work and course preparation through on‑going professional development.
  • Develop a scholarly agenda as appropriate for the discipline and position, in consultation with the department chair.
Service
  • Attend regular and special faculty meetings including department meetings.
  • Serve on college standing committees, ad hoc committees and/or working groups.
  • Attend Commencement, and process inregalia as required.
  • Oversight of curricular development of courses and programs as appropriate and in consultation with the department chair.
  • Engage in service to the profession as appropriate.
Professional Behaviors
  • Prepare annual reviews of performance, due at the end of each Spring semester.
  • Respond promptly, no later than one business day, to student emails and request for assistance.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
