Position SummaryRowan-Cabarrus Community College is looking for an adjunct Instructor to teach Custodial/Environmental Services courses within the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections. This role focuses on delivering high-quality instruction in commercial cleaning best practices, including sanitation, safety protocols, equipment handling, and industry standards. The instructor will play a vital role in preparing individuals for employment in custodial and environmental services roles.
Applicants for this position must successfully pass background checks conducted by both Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections system.
Required Education/Experience- High School Diploma or equivalent and experience in custodial services.
- Capability of delivering instruction in a classroom setting.
- Ability to demonstrate cleaning equipment, with knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their appropriate application.
- Experience in commercial cleaning and experience in adult education/instruction preferred.
- Knowledge of job‑seeking and job‑retention skills also preferred.
Skills and Abilities
Willingness to work in a corrections facility with incarcerated individuals and follow rules and regulations of both the community college and the facility.

Duty and Responsibility- Successfully prepare, manage, and deliver course content in order to achieve course objectives, accommodate diverse learning styles, and meet student learning outcomes.
- Actively engage students and provide prompt feedback in an objective, respectful, and effective manner.
- Communicate and follow course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance.
- Work collaboratively with the College’s support services to identify and address the students’ academic support needs.
- Utilize College technology for the delivery of instruction and completion of operational processes; this includes but is not limited to the College’s learning management system, email and calendaring solution, document management system(s), student information system, and employee portals.
- Meet deadlines, including maintaining and submitting accurate class records, employee records/requests, and other assigned tasks.
- When applicable, ensure laboratories are appropriately stocked with required supplies and equipment is in safe operating order.
- Facilitate a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty and staff.
