Overview
The principal purpose of this position is to direct student learning and assess student progress in achieving the requirements of the Veterinary Medical Technology program.
Supervision- Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the Veterinary Medical Technology (VMT) Program Director
- May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructional staff
- Exercises no right supervision
- Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to VMT program students
- Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities; develop, and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons
- Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores
- Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery
- Develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
- Ensure that all instruction given to students including, lectures, tests, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and service projects follow the technical direction of the Program Director
- Participate in curriculum development, evaluation, and change
- Attend faculty meetings as required
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, and performance
- Maintain other records and databases according to program needs or accreditation requirements
- Stay abreast of new developments, and changes in the academic field(s)
- Participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate
- Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines
- Participate on college committees and in other institutional activities and program
- Courses to be delivered via face-to-face, online, hybrid or web-enhanced modalities as assigned.
- Other Important Functions:
- Fill in for other instructors as needed
- Assess the relevance and impact of various lessons and revise and improve lesson format when necessary
- Evaluate various textbook and select books to be used for future classes
- Oversee and participate in the field studies and assignment; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
- Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progress, and qualifications for graduation
- Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous materials, and hazardous wastes
- Administer and monitor appropriate anesthetics and perform basic surgery and dental procedures as needed
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Knowledge of:
- Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures
- Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment
- Safety in the Workplace
- Current trends in the academic area
- Principles and procedures of record keeping
- Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including Right to Know regulations
Ability to:
- Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations
- Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations
- Communicate clearly, and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Minimum Education/Training:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) that graduated from a regionally accredited college or university and holds an unrestricted license to practice as a Veterinarian in North Carolina OR
- Registered Veterinary Technician that graduated from an accredited AVMA or CVMA program
License or Certificate:
- Must hold a current North Carolina Veterinary License OR
- Current Registered Veterinary Technician certificate.
Minimum Experience:
- Three (3) years of full-time working experience in the veterinary field
Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
- Knowledge of AVMA/CVTEA accreditation standards
- Teaching experience in post-secondary education in related areas of study
