Part-Time Program Assistant- Cooperative Extension

Overview

$15hr. Monday-Friday, 15 hours/week. Exact hours/days to be determined when hired. Temporary from February – June 2026.

This position will carry out 4-H STEM and youth agriculture programs in conjunction with the agents. The person would be responsible for coordinating and supporting the facilitation of the embryology project, regional chicken project, school garden project, youth livestock program, Game of Drone team, and other STEM programs as needed. The person will help organize and teach youth in the above areas at the Extension office and in schools in Bladen County.

Employee must exercise considerable tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.

• Must possess excellent customer service skills and have the ability to work independently to plan their work. Must be able to work with children and youth.
• Will plan and implement the above programs with assistance from agents.
• Purchases and/or prepares supplies and/or other required materials and equipment.
• Creates documents, spreadsheets, reports, and presentations with Canva, Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Creates and modifies forms for office use in tracking and statistical quantifying activities.

• Skills in word processing and relevant computer applications/technology are required.
• Ability to learn youth agriculture programs and STEM material that is then taught to children.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with a variety of people and programs.
• Ability to prioritize work and respond to clientele’s needs.

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Prefer experience in working with youth and children. Skills should also include a working knowledge of various Microsoft Office processing applications or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

As this position works with youth, the candidate must be able to pass an extensive background check. Requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other body parts, and to physically maneuver upon varying terrain, surfaces or physical structures.
