General Description:

The Writing Center Professional Communication Consultant, under the authority and direction of the Writing Center Coordinator, is responsible for providing professional tutoring and consultations across the disciplines to Richmond

CC students.

Duties and responsibilities of the position:

  • Provide face-to-face and online skilled oral and written tutorial services for current Richmond

    CC students.
  • Participate in professional development workshops within three months of employment and annually thereafter. Workshops will be provided by Richmond

    CC’s Writing Center Coordinator.
  • Provide a comfortable, non-threatening, non-judgmental environment in which students, faculty, and staff can receive the speaking and writing help and support they need.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all students’ academic and personal information.
  • Assist faculty and staff in the Academic Success Center (ASC) with equipment and services.
  • Assist/provide professional development workshops/training to support the Academic Success Center’s services.
  • Market the Academic Success Center and increase awareness of the Writing Center to all Richmond

    CC constituents to sustain annual growth goals.
  • Maintain open communication with the Writing Center Coordinator, the ASC Coordinator, as well as the on-site administrator at off-campus sites
  • Support the annual Academic Success Center assessment with perception, satisfaction, and usage surveys
  • Maintain accurate records for tutoring sessions, payroll, and instructional support purposes.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Writing Center and ASC Coordinators.Position Qualifications:
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Excellent oral and written communication skills;
    Knowledge of effective oral and written communication praxis at the collegiate level;
    Ability to work collaboratively; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and willingness to work in the morning, afternoon, or evening and other campus locations as needed. Knowledge of modern communication mediums, technologies, and practices is preferred.
    Minimum

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree (with GPA of 3.2 or above in all ENG courses taken) from an accredited institution required;
    College or adult teaching experience preferred;
    Tutoring experience preferred;
    Experience with a writing and/or speaking center and multi-disciplinary programs preferred. Video experience is welcome!
