Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director of Child Care to join our team! As the Director of Child Care, you will be responsible for selecting age-appropriate programs, activities, and curricula for the children in our care. You will also support the current staff, manage scheduling and office supplies, bring positive communication to the team, and implement new strategies to grow and expand our outreach.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a deep understanding of child development and education, and experience managing staff.

Qualifications
  • Have either a high school diploma or its equivalent; and
  • 2 years of experience in a licensed child care center; or
  • An undergraduate, graduate or associate s degree, with at least 12 hours of child development, child psychology, early childhood education or directly related field; or
  • a Child Development Associate Credential; or
  • technical college curriculum program in the area of childcare or early childcare; or
  • North Carolina Early Childhood Credentials and one year of child care experience.
  • Completed First Aid, CPR and OSHA training. Must be knowledgeable of and able to recognize common symptoms of illness.
  • Completed at least 4 clock hours of training approved by the division.
  • The Director will be onsite for at least 25 hours each week.
Responsibilities
  • Provide quality child care services for the children and staff of our program.
  • Flexible but consistent scheduling
  • Maintain a developmentally appropriate program for all the ages enrolled
  • Maintain full enrollment and handle all record taking accurately
  • Communicate effectively with staff and families
  • Supervise all staff
  • Conduct staff/parent meetings
  • Assist teachers in evaluating children’s progress and in holding conferences with parents
  • Deal with crisis and mundane issues
  • Initiate and participate in fundraising activities
  • Answer phone messages, mail, and e-mail
  • Keep an accurate record of the Waiting List
  • Do weekly, monthly, or annual jobs as need arises (e.g. interview potential staff member or enroll new students as opening for staff and children occur)
  • Supervise interns and case managers referred to us from community service agencies directly relating to children with special needs
  • Supervise case managers and work study/internship students
  • Evaluate policies and procedure, make suggestions to special needs board
  • To conduct monthly tasks
  • Check buildings, grounds, and equipment; provide for required maintenance
  • Review teachers’ classroom plans
  • Conduct fire drills, document, and check fire extinguishers
  • Prepare & disseminate School Newsletter
  • Prepare and submit DSS attendance and records
  • Working with parents on participating in fundraisers and volunteer opportunities
  • BUDGET – In conjunction with the treasurer, prepare yearly budget for all operational and personnel expenses
  • Inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Order supplies
  • Maintain building and equipment replacement
  • Manage all revenues securely
  • Maintain full enrollment and handle all record taking accurately
  • Collect fees from parents monthly and document transactions
  • Receive tuition, provide receipts for cash and deposit in the bank
  • Participate in fundraising
  • Obtain and disseminate information on legislation and grants available, participate in grant writing as requested by the board
  • Approve bills to be paid by the bookkeeper
