An employee in this class is responsible for the management, processing, collection, and storage of police records, reports, and information and answers the telephone and radio while on duty. Duties also include typing and filing reports, and serving as Assistant TAC for the department. Work requires detailed knowledge of State and local departmental guidelines or internal departmental procedures for the processing and storage of records.
Employees are expected to follow standard processes and to assure the safety and security of records. Work is supervised by the Police Management Assistant and is reviewed through observation, conferences, reports, and review of work performed in the assigned function.

- Receives, sorts and enters a variety of reports into the police computer system including incident reports, supplemental reports, arrest reports, juvenile custody reports, accident reports, warrants, citations, parking tickets, and other documents; assists with problems that arise with the Records Management program.
- Assures that reports are accurately written and appropriate charges are indicated, etc. on these reports; communicates with shift supervisors in getting any needed corrections taken care of on reports.
- Enters data according to internal departmental standards and State requirements; forwards reports to State level monthly for audits.
- Compiles data from records activities and system; types a variety of reports.
- Serves as Assistant Terminal Agency Coordinator (ATAC) for the department.
- Researches police records as necessary and required; handles information confidentially and in accordance with laws and operating procedures.
- Answers telephone and radio; gives out information; take messages; runs requests for information through DCI systems.
- Enters stolen items into the computer system; runs requests for information through DCI systems.
- Assists with scheduling training for DCI and mobile data terminals and assists with problems that arise with their function; maintains a variety of files relating to DCI, etc.
- Accepts monies for the department and turns into Finance Office.
- Serves as information source for police records for insurance companies, other law enforcement agencies, the media, and the general public.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Considerable knowledge of the operation of a two-way radio system in a law enforcement environment.
- Considerable knowledge of records processing, collection, and storage processes and procedures.
- Working knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of the preparation of reports and maintenance of records and files.
- Ability to obtain the necessary information for proper dispatching.
- Ability to speak clearly, distinctively, and courteously.
- Ability to input data into computer based on Federal and State guidelines or internal procedures.
- Ability to plan and organize work in order to meet needs for the law enforcement efforts.
- Ability to type accurately at a moderate rate of speed.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers and staff, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public.

- Ability to meet deadlines and work standards, which may be performed under stress.

- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of talking, hearing, lifting, fingering, walking, reaching, stooping and repetitive motions.
