This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position scheduled to work 32 hours per week (0.80 FTE), calculated against the institution’s standard 40-hour full-time workweek.
The PurposeThe Foundation Accountant works under the direction of the Executive Director. The Foundation Accountant will be responsible for functions related to nonprofit accounting. This includes, but is not limited to, processing accounts payable, including data entry, spreadsheet reconciliation, payment, and other applicable responsibilities. Execution of tasks required to perform these responsibilities will necessitate a candidate with a strong combination of both analytical and multi-tasking abilities to follow through.
Must be a detail oriented, team player.
Responsibilities include timely and accurate:
- Creating and entering journal entries.
- General Ledger – including balancing and reconciling cash and investment accounts and/or endowed funds; research and reconcile any problems or discrepancies.
- Process bank deposits, funds transfers and other receipts.
- Processing of purchases with proper supporting documentation and follow up.
- Prepare and process all accounts payable including managing requisitions and the issuance of checks.
- Creation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Assist Executive Director with ongoing support to project managers with respect to management of Foundation awards and private grants.
- Backup for various, necessary financial reports/processing as needed.
- Preparation of NC E-500 Sales and Use Tax Return and payment.
- Preparation of NC 585 Nonprofit claim for refund of state, county and transit sales and use tax.
- Preparation of documentation for the annual audit. Assist with final review of the audited financial statements and preparation of the IRS form 990.
- Preparation of Forms 1099 and IRS Form 1096.
- Support the Executive Director in financial matters and assist with special projects as needed.
- Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of Blue Ridge Community College, the NC Community College System, the Educational Foundation and applicable state and federal agencies.
Including but not limited to:
- Marketing
- Special events & projects
- Maintain the technical competencies to the job function
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
ABachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accounting, business, or related field required.
Experience5-10 years’ work experience performing professional accounting work (Foundation or other nonprofit is desirable).
Skills and the Know-HowPossess strong personal and professional integrity, effective verbal and written communication skills, excellent math skills, and a commitment to safety. Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, College email (currently Gmail), and other computer applications associated with the position. Experience with Blackbaud’s Financial Edge NXT software is highly preferred. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB preferred). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons contacted in the course of work, including donors, directors, students and co-workers.
Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, adapt to changes, and follow through to complete assignments.
