Under the direct supervision of the modality or department leader, the Diagnostic Imaging Aide coordinates the activities of the department through communication, requisitioning, and managing of supplies, equipment and staff. Interacts and communicates with personnel from various departments and support services, as well as the public and department coworkers. Provides administrative and clerical support to the department.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates knowledge and competency in completing assigned duties/responsibilities according to established protocols for procedures being performed.
- Has knowledge of various procedures and understands the use and implications when imaging contrast is being used. Reviews lab work values for IV contrast studies and medical terminology related to patient history.
- Provides clerical support:
Assist other team members to fulfill department needs (test ordering, test result processing, making copies, filing, mailing, telephone calls, film/report retrieval/printing/faxing). - Schedules guests/customers appropriately based on physician script request, history or new concern. Provides pre-registration instructions and specific test preparation guidance.
- Responsible for patient/data management:
Maintains consistent records for billing and appropriate tracking (activating accounts, patient in/out, film sign-out/log, responds timely to film requests). Reschedules guests/patients and maintains a system for cancellations, pathology, etc. - Provide safe direct patient care.
- Change table configuration as needed.
- Assist technologist, radiologist/nurse as needed.
- Provide appropriate support in all Diagnostic Imaging areas as needed.
- Coordinate cases as directed by the technologist or provider.
- Greets patients and guests upon arrival, provides clear instructions for completing necessary paperwork for tests.
- Reviews and completes pending report log along with handling failed faxes.
- Retrieve needed patient-related documents from the computer for radiologist and staff.
- Retrieve and disseminate imaging medical records and upload external imaging onto PACS.
- Follow network policy for patient identification; assist with placing patients on/off procedure tables using proper body mechanics, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and assisting patients as needed.
- Provide clerical support to the clinical team in critical value reporting.
- Stock and clean rooms as necessary; record refrigerator/warmer temperatures; manage supplies and waste.
- Observe patients in holding areas and assist in transferring and transporting patients safely; adhere to Falls Prevention protocols.
- Maintain adequate supplies for daily use; help organize and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Comply with hospital, local, state and federal regulatory and accrediting standards as well as department protocols and policies.
- Participate in continuing education and complete required e-learning as assigned.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite).
Skills And Abilities
Preferred
- Previous data entry experience.
- AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 3 months of entering position.
- Regular contact with medical personnel and visitors.
- Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs, pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs, and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
