GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The International Services and Off Campus Studies Coordinator is responsible for supporting international students and faculty as they join the campus community, as well as students enrolled at MCLA who are interested in study abroad opportunities. The coordinator manages international student exchange and affiliated programs (inbound and outbound) and supports student advising, program promotion, pre‑departure and re‑entry programming, and visa applications.

The coordinator maintains relationships with international partners, supports faculty‑led trips, and organizes and promotes events celebrating our international community. The coordinator may also have the opportunity to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) registered with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, depending on qualifications.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Work Study Students, Office Interns

DETAILED STATEMENT OF

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administer all aspects of study-away/abroad programming and provide administrative and logistical support for domestic and international educational programs and initiatives, including faculty‑led travel courses and National Student Exchange.
  • Address student inquiries regarding off-campus study opportunities, requirements, curriculum options, grants, and application and visa processes.
  • Respond to inquiries from current and potential international students relative to logistical, transportation, cultural and other matters.
  • Assist international students and visiting scholars with all aspects of the pre‑arrival process including the visa application process and analysis of supporting documentation.
  • Support international faculty on transition to MCLA and assist HR on visa/employment authorization, and permanent resident applications.
  • Coordinate student pre‑departure processes including visa application processing, health and safety education and re‑entry documentation requirements.
  • Plan events that highlight and support MCLA's international community and promote international programs and faculty‑led trips.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate performance of work‑study students.
  • Remain current on developments, best practices, and trends within the field of international education, cultural affairs, and immigration laws.
  • If appropriate, collect and maintain SEVIS and international student and visiting scholar records. Ensure all documentation meets related regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, with 2-5 years of experience in higher education, preferably with an emphasis in international education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of immigration and related visa laws and regulations.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and other related software.
  • Candidates should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, exhibiting strategic thinking, sound judgment, initiative, and flexibility.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
  • Optional:
    If the candidate is interested in serving as a DSO, then they must be U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident and meet DHS/DOS criteria.
  • Optional:
    While not a requirement, competency in a language other than English and/or personal experience studying or living abroad will be viewed favorably by the search committee.
Additional Information:

This is a full‑time, permanent, benefitted position within the APA Union. Salary for this position is $53,000-$58,000 per year. Position starts on 6/01/2026.
