As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will be responsible for providing professional grooming services to our valued customers’ pets. With your expertise and attention to detail, you will ensure that each pet receives exceptional care, leaving them looking and feeling their best. The Pet Stylist’s primary purpose is to perform expert-level professional grooming services, including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning. The Stylist prioritizes safety, comfort, and well-being of pets and delivers high customer satisfaction and service. Tasks may include additional duties as assigned by the Grooming Salon Leader, Solutions Manager, or Store General Manager.

• Perform professional grooming services (bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) per pet parent instructions and breed standards
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers)
• Prioritize animal well-being and safety; monitor for signs of discomfort, illness or injury and report concerns
• Evaluate each pet’s needs (coat type, skin conditions, temperament)

• Interact professionally with pet parents, provide excellent customer service, address inquiries, offer grooming recommendations, and provide timely resolutions
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at-home care to promote pet well-being
• Maintain a clean, safe grooming area; disinfect and sanitize tools; perform routine cleaning in the salon per Petco policies
• Adhere to Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality and consistency
• Train, support, and supervise entry-level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or previous experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem-solving with guidance from leadership as needed
• Results-driven with commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of role
• Strong attention to detail and high grooming standards
• Genuine passion for animals and a desire to continue a career in grooming
• Expert knowledge of breed-specific cuts, grooming requirements, and common health issues and behaviors
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with pet parents and team members
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy
• Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed

The majority of duties are performed indoors in the grooming salon. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. May require use of a two-step ladder or cleaning tools. Significant time is spent in direct contact with pet parents and their dogs. The environment can be noisy and wet.

The pay ranges are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations and may vary by location. Actual pay depends on position, location, experience, and applicable wage laws. Salary Range: $15.00 - $22.50
