Job DescriptionThe Docent Coordinator designs and evaluates guided experiences that invite visitors to connect, reflect, and respond to the museum collection and programs. The role focuses on creating training materials and facilitating walkthroughs for both incoming and experienced tour guides that provide appropriate levels of support and direction. The Docent Coordinator will work in alignment with content and material developed by the Interpretation Specialist and the Museum Experience Division.
RepresentativeDuties
- 40% Facilitate Training – Develop and implement a yearly training program and appreciation events for the museum tour guides and volunteers.
- 20% Tour Scheduling – Assist in scheduling volunteers to lead tours for all guided visits.
- 15% Lead Tours – Be willing to step in and lead guided tours when needed.
- 10% Recruitment – Recruit new volunteers annually with a focus on maintaining retention of new and experienced members.
- 10% Museum Experience – Uphold the highest standards of a visitor-focused museum experience and respond to all visitors, groups, and volunteers with clarity, respect, and integrity. Contribute to the visitor-focused work of the Museum Experiences Division.
- 5% Other duties as assigned
Required Education
:
High School diploma or GED
Required Skills
:
- Working knowledge of office procedures
- Ability to use a computer and take clear messages
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as a team member
- Ability to complete tasks efficiently and timely
- Detail oriented
- Ability to multitask, be organized, and self-motivated
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Departmental Preferences

- Strong interest in learning about visual art
- Customer service experience
